While the diet products which contain vinegar in the form of capsules probably don't work (they don't contain the active ingredient acetic acid) , there is some evidence to show from experiments that taking a little vinegar does help you lose weight.
Swallowing two spoonfuls of the stuff before dinner is not something I would relish, I admit, but a little balsamic vinegar as a dressing for a salad or a snack of dill pickles - I could live with that.
