I've been enjoying the new BBC programme "How to Live Longer" this week.
Each show takes a volunteer with a number of unhealthy habits and puts them through a whole range of tests giving them a calculated "Biological Age". Following the shock of finding out they're sending themselves to a prematurely early death by their habits such as eating the wrong food, smoking, drinking, not exercising, working too hard, not socialising enough and so on, they are ready to change!
The volunteers then spend six weeks changing their ways and then return to be retested by the experts.
And the transformation is remarkable in just six weeks, not just in their weight and their fitness and the results of the medical tests but also in how blooming they are, how they smile more, how their skin glows and how they feel great about themselves. And we are all capable of that six week transformation!
Try this great Life Expectancy calculator on the site too and find out which habits you could be changing (if you don't know already!).
I found out that barring accidents and bird flu etc I could expect to live to the ripe old age of 86.6 and there's still room for improvement.
So that's another 40+ years to convince the world that changing habits step by step and not drastic dieting is the answer to losing weight then .... :)
