Ear Stapling for Weight Loss?
A new craze is sweeping America - getting staples in your ear to help you lose weight.
The staples, which are inserted inside your ear near the stomach acupuncture point, are supposed to help curb your appetite.
With the rise in popularity of ear stapling, unlicensed practitioners have been springing up and worryingly so are the infection rates of people who have had the procedure although there are licensed and reputable acupuncture practitioners who carry out ear stapling with less risk.
But does ear stapling work?
There's a lot of anecdotal evidence around that people have lost pounds after ear stapling (and plenty of people who have not lost an ounce too).
The whole idea of ear stapling certainly helped curb my appetite - it was bad enough having my ears pierced when I was 14!
What makes me mad is that common sense seems to go out of the window where weight loss is concerned and we will empty our pockets for any solution no matter how unproven. We lose pounds often enough - but only the monetary kind. We do damage to our bodies (or ears in this case) without having solid unbiased evidence that it will do any good for our weight.
You can try losing weight with ear stapling if you like, you can try every diet pill, patch and potion out there (and who knows it may help you) but it all comes down to you in the end.
Nothing will do it for you without you putting in some effort - not ear staples, not appetite suppressants, not sticking a diet patch to your thigh.
You will only lose weight (and more importantly keep it off) when you want to lose it enough to also change your eating and exercise habits.
Just my little rant for the day...
